Development Alternatives are internationally acclaimed experts on grassroots innovation involved with generating an alternative source of livelihood for rural communities. They are proud recipients of the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards in India.
NotonMap has been involved with DA to generate alternative livelihoods through travel and tourism. We promote livelihood generation through agriculture, craft preservation, vocational training and other such activities.
Together, we have undertaken two major projects to impact the lifestyle of rural communities:
- Craft Preservation in an artist village in Madhya Pradesh
Trying to generate a livelihood through the native art and craft by creating opportunities for travelers to visit and interact with the artists. - Homestays in North India
Building a sustainable ecosystem by incorporating travelers with the natives hosts of the village and creating self help groups to let them benefit from the cause.
